2004 RECLAIMED AREA <br />(Photographs 29-32) <br />Cover <br />(Table 5) <br />Native perennial cool season grasses were most abundant, comprising 15.6% vegetation cover <br />(all hits). Within this group, slender wheatgrass (Elymus trachycaulus), mountain brome <br />(Ceratochloa carinata), and western wheatgrass (Pascopyrum smithii) were most common, <br />having 5.3%, 4.3%, and 2.7% cover, respectively. Introduced annual-and biennial (orbs (6.7%) <br />and introduced perennial forbs (5.8%) were the second and third most common lifeforms. <br />Russian thistle (Salsola australis), prickly lettuce (Lactuca semiola), and devil's shoestrings <br />(Polygonum arenastrum) were the most common introduced annual and biennial forbs, having <br />1.7°fo, 1.4°fo, and 1.2% cover, respectively. Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) and Canada thistle (Breea <br />arvensis) were the most common introduced perennial forbs with 3.8% and 2.0% cover <br />respectively. <br />Total average vegetation cover, for first hits, was 34.9%. Total average vegetation cover, for all <br />hits, was 35.3%. Standing dead, litter, bare soil, and rock each had 3.4°10, 26.5%, 32.9°10, and <br />2.3% cover, respectively (first hits). Average species density was 32.7 species/100 sq. m. <br />Production <br />(Table 6) <br />Total average production was 1020.7 Ibslacre. Native perennial cool season grasses contributed <br />the most with an average production of 619.2 Ibslacre (approximately 60%). Introduced annual <br />and biennial forbs and introduced perennial cool season grasses contributed moderate amounts <br />(139.2 and 105.3 Ibs/acre respectively). <br />Woody Plant Density <br />(Table 7) <br />Total average density of woody plants was 327.8 individuals/acre, composed of native shrubs <br />and native trees. Quaking aspen (Populus fremuloides), a native tree and chokecherry (Padus <br />virginiana ssp. melanocarpa), a native shrub were the most dominant with 101.2 and 97.1 <br />individualslacre respectively. Other native shrubs present included: mountain snowberry <br />(Symphoricarpos rotundifolius), Saskatoon serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia), big sagebrush <br />(Seriphidium tridentatum), and wood's rose (Rosa woodsii). <br /> <br />10 <br />
