2000 Annual Hydrologic Report
Page 7

Impacts
The total dissolved solids for the mine discharges calculated with monthly TDS and
monthly flow for the Year comes out to be 1 i 6.2 tons for 001, 1183.8 tons for 002 and
99.1 tons for 004 fora total of 1399 tons. The following table presents the total TDS
discharged from the mine during the three prior years.
Outfalls 001, 002 & 004
Water Year 1997 1998 1999 2000
TDS (Tons) 1805 2214 1797 1399
The 2000 TDS discharge represents 0.12% of the 1.2 million tons calculated to be
carried by the River. Discharge from the Roadside North Portal, outfal{ 004, has
ceased. At the Roadside South Portal, water is expected to perpetually discharge from
outfalls 001 and 002.
There was no detectable effect of mining on flows in Cottonwood and Rapid Creeks.
Mining ceased at the Roadside Portals on December 2, 1999. No further mining from
either portal is anticipated in the foreseeable future.
Consumptive water use continued to be closely tied to production. Consumptive use
will be insignificant in the future because mining and washing of coal has ceased.
I~
