u
11. This Juniper seedling is planted in soil with a high gypsum content.
Notice how much smaller the seedling is.
r
4
On the right side of Zinc Hill lies 10 ft. terraces which also have trees
planted on them. Some soil material has collected on these terraces in which a
variety of native grasses have movedin. Although vegetation is growing in this
area, the aesthetics of the hill is poor, and it clearly shows that good
reclamation techniques were not used in 1972. Some of the more adaptable species
that have moved in are: Indian Ricegrass , Sleepy Grass, Broom Snakeweed, and
Rubber Rabbitbrush. Others are Fringed Sagebrush, Squawbush Currant , Mountain
snowberry, Mullein, and many other weedy species.
The reclamation plans for the next few years include filling and building up
the cavity walls, contouring and revegetating Some contouring has already been
done to the waste dump area ,just below the cavity in the hill.
12. This: picture shows a good rilling technique. Manure and topsoil will
be mixed in at a later date.
> - l
[v F
.► ;`y tom,;
yr moo• ; fi .. + IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
22895
