BANTA, Director
DATE: June 16, 1988
T0: Cathy Begej _ ~~~
FROM: Jim Pendleton ~
RE: Orchard Valley W ine -Proposed Slump Treatment
I have reviewed Ms Kathy Welt's letter to you of Ma(y 31, 1988, In that letter
Kathy Welt proposes a treatment for the small slump which occurred on the
south facing wall of the portal excavation at the Orchard Valley Mine's West
Portals.
The proposed treatment is to install a hand dug diversion ditch and plastic
cover to prevent further infiltration of water into the slump mass. Because
the approved reclamation plan states that this entire area will be backfilled
and reclaimed at cessation of operations of the West Portal, this solution is
only temporary in nature. Because it is only temporary, I consider this
proposed treatment to be acceptable, However, I recommend that you clearly
state in any acceptance documents that if this solution were proposed for a
permanent reclaimed configuration, it would not be an acceptable solution
because of its maintenance dependency.
cc: Sue Mowry
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
