RECEIVED
BOWIE RESOURCES LIMITED APR 06 2001
Bowie No. 1 Mine
Division of Minerals 8 Geolony
Coal Mine Waste Bank Inspection - 15' Quarter 2001
On March 21, 2001, I performed a quarterly visual inspection of the Bowie No. 1 Mine
coal mine waste bank in accordance with Ruie 4.10.2.
I, J. E. Stover, P.E., have a wide variety of experience in the design and construction of
earth fill embankments. Nothing was observed during the inspection that would indicate
the pile has a potential for failure. All organic material and topsoil has been removed
ahead of the waste bank founding. The pile and surrounding area were dry to damp.
No seepage was noted around the pile. The north facing slope of the pile had some
thawing snow drift remnants.
No coal mine waste was deposited in the pile during the quarter. There were no
drainage alterations and no new bench construction. No topsoil was salvaged during
the quarter.
The design of the waste disposal area is presented in Volume 6A. To the best of my
knowledge and belief, based on my inspection of the pile and previous inspections by
professional engineers, the coal mine waste bank has been constructed in accordance
with the approved plan.
The pile is located in a remote area well away from human habitation. A failure of the
pile might damage the mine haul road located below the pile. However, a failure of the
pile would probably not be a hazard to human lif ~~~
Recommend maintenance: None
++Op REC/sT~~
• P .....
i p~.S E Sr''~9er'•
v . <^
i*~Y192~0~~~*~
'c/
~~Nv.
~aa~;;
