Cattany
Division Dimctw
Natural Resource Tmstee
The Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (Division) has finished its review of the Bowie
Resources LLC (BRL) submittal of the 2004 Annual Report for the Bowie No. 1 Mine.
2004 Annual Hvdrologv Report (AHR)
The Division agrees with BRL's conclusion that the mining operations at the Bowie No. 1 Mine,
which ended in 1997, have not adversely impacted the hydrologic regime. The data support the
predictions that are presented in the Probable Hydrologic Consequences section of the permit
application.
The Division has the following questions and comments:
Tables 1, 2, 3 and 4B in Volume 4 of the Bowie No. 1 Mine permit application have
footnotes that designate with a "NO(E)" those surface water monitoring stations and
groundwater monitoring wells that will be reactivated one year before mining is resumed
in the Bowie No. 1 East Mine. It is the Division's understanding that there is a possibility
that Bowie No. 2 may access the Bowie No.l East Mine workings sometime in 2006.
Please comment on BRL's plan for these inactive monitoring sites as it relates to the
remining of the Bowie No. 1 East Mine reserves.
2. According to information on page 2 of the 2004 AHR, groundwater monitoring wells BO1
and OV WM were destroyed. Please update Table 4B in Volume 4 of the permit
application to reflect this situation.
3. In Table 1 of Volume 4 of the permit application, quarterly water quality analyses are
required for surface water monitoring stations SW-5, SW-6 and SW-10.
