Work was completed on backfilling and
regrading the last area mined during 1990. Topsoil was
replaced on approximately 1.4 acres of this area and
reseeding was accomplished. An area of approximately one acre
directly south of the former highwall escarpment was seeded
again in 1993. This area had been reclaimed and seeded in
1991 but revegetation results from the first seeding were
unsatisfactory.
The portion of Eagle County Road #51 which serves as a
haulroad was treated with dust suppressant during the summer.
Roadbase material was replaced on worn areas of the road at
that time. Work was also accomplished in widening the narrow
road sections at the double curves overlooking Interstate 70.
Fill material from those narrow sections was used to
straighten an ess curve road section just above the #1 Mile
Marker. Material from the double curve cut was also used at
the hairpin curve just north of Interstate 70 where the road
section was realigned thru the location of the old, decayed
stage coach bridge.
This project will be completed in the Spring of 1994 with
final grading and resurfacing of the new road sections. The
former hairpin curve section will also be reclaimed at that
time with resloping backfill, a layer of topsoil and
reseeding.
A total of approximately 336,000 tons of gypsum rock were
shipped from the mine during 1993.
-3-
