Additional Page
2002 Annual Report
Pueblo East Pit
FOR bE~OS1TOPlLY
DIVISION OF ~AINERALS & G~OLQCY
M-1986-015
Transit Mix of Pueblo
Anniversary Date: November 12
Overview of Permit Year: Preparation for mining was completed and mining ensued within the original
approved permit area. The amendment was completed and submitted, but approval is yet to be received. There
was considerable delay in final processing due to a need to address some hydrologic issues and an objection to
the well permit. These have all been resolved, the adequacy response submitted, but final approval has not been
received as of the writing of this report.
Annual Report Maps: As was done last year, only one annual report map is submitted. This maps shows the
locations and types of disturbances that occurred at the site. It covers only the existing permit azea. It does not
include the unapproved amendment area. No disturbances have been made in the amendment area other than
those required for establishing the groundwater monitoring system described in the amendment application.
Affected Lands: Mining ensued within the area south of the plant site. This area was expanded some during
the year, but a significant portion of the original permit west of the large drainage remains unmined, although it
has been stripped of vegetation and some of the overburden.
Three small temporary sediment basins were established on the east side of the drainage ditch, but the
capacity of these were small. A large sediment basin is being constructed in mined out areas in the northeast
corner of the mining area south of the plant site. This will continue to expand southward following the areas
expected to be eventually backfilled as described in the amendment.
Dewatering has been done by pumping the water through pipes to the east side of the drainage ditch
where it was discharged into old mining areas. The water then follows a path that leads through cattail marshes
and a large pond adjacent to the river. At the downriver side of the pond, a culvert carries water from the large
pond and discharges it. Previously this was discharged into the riparian forest to the east. This outfall to the
river has been changed. The water now flows down a short ditch through the forest and directly enters the
river. Water quality is within the permitted requirements.
Revegetation: None.
Expected Activity (2003): Mining in 2003 will continue to be done within the existing permit area. The
addition of the amended land will not provide full permission to expand into the amendment area until certain
provisions are met regarding water supply to an adjacent land owner. Once that supply is established, entrance
into the amendment area will become available.
Bonding: This operation is covered by a corporate bond.
Transit Mix of Pueblo 2002 Annual Report M-1986-015 Pueblo East Pit Page 1 of 1
