(6) In section 5.1.1 it would be appropriate to support the statement that "there have been
no mining induced impacts to the stream flow or water quality..." with at least a
reference to the data, if not a brief explanation of how that conclusion was reached.
(7) Section 5.1.2 should refer to the most current version of the CHIA (a copy of which
is enclosed.)
(8) In section 5.2.1 it was noted that there was a small increase in the proportion of some
analytes in several springs during the 2002 water year. Noting the hydrographs for these
springs, though, the flow was extremely low, so a negligible volume of water was
released with only slightly elevated TDS, bicarbonate, and iron.
(9) It was noted that both wells in the F-seam have now collapsed, leaving the
monitoring program without a functioning monitoring well within that seam. Given the
fact that the F-seam is actually sampled by means of in-flows into that seam within the
extensive workings and also that the F-seam crops out along the canyon of the North
Fork a short distance down-gradient of the mine workings, this may not be significant.
We should discuss the condition of monitoring within the F-seam and how that satisfies
the demands 4.05.13.
Thank you for the report.
Sincerely~,~~t G~
C./Jim Burnell
Environmental Protection Specialist
Cc: Sandy Brown
