2001 ANNUAL RECLAMATION REPORT <br />NHI <br />No activity occurred on the NH1 area in 2001. Fertilizer was applied at a rate of 50#/acre to the <br />small (i.4 acre area in the NW corner of the permit Exhibit 2001-I shows the location, as well as the <br />~"`' cut pasture yield total of about 8.0 st (2,500 lb/acre), frotn the 6.4 acre area. For reference, <br />Exhibit 2001-2 shows the pre-1993 disturbance at NH1. Please note that the NH1 boundary has <br />changed as a result of MR-52. <br />NH2 <br />Ezistim~ Disturbance <br />Dori m~ 2001, i 8?O acres of new dishu-bance was associated with the mining program at the New Hotizon <br />2Minc. "I'he2001 Disturbance and Seeding Maps,Exhibit2001-3 and 2001-4 respectively,showthe <br />tunas either disturbed, reseeded, or both, dw~ing 2001. <br />13ack1511ine and Grading <br />Durin~~ 2001, 36.22 acres were graded at New Horizon 2. Backfill grading was accomplished by <br />• baci<lillingtheemptypitwithatruck-shovelfleetandthenfinalgradingwithD-9 dozers andl4Ggrader. <br />Soil and Spoil Scarification <br />The following soil and spoilscarifrcationtechniqueswereusedwhilegradingthereclamationarea. Prior <br />to growth media soil replacement, the final graded spoil was scarified to a depth of6 to 18 inches using <br />ripper shanks attached behind a motor grader or a D-9 or equivalent dozer. This scarifying operation <br />cl}ectively reduced compaction, roduced runoff, and improved infiltration, while improving rooting depths. <br />Soil and Spoil Monitoring Data <br />New Horizon Mine is required by Permit C-81-008 to monitor replaced soil and final graded spoil and <br />suhmitthcinfotmationtotheDivision. Monitoring programsincludeverifyingsoilreplacementthickness <br />and determining final graded spoil quality. Exhibit 200 i -6 (topsoil thickness and sample map), and 2001-7 <br />(back fl I! spoil sample map), shows the locations of the sample sites along with the thicktess ofthe topsoil <br />replacement. <br />Spoil (duality <br />"fhe spoil sampling and analysis program approved for New Horizon Mine is described in Section <br />2.0>.4(2)(d)-4 Regraded Soil Monitoring_Program of Permit C-81-008. Backfill spoil samples for <br />2001 were collected from one site in the New Horizon 2 area.
