October 29, 1992
Pepa 4
DOMG Response
11) Logarithm scales are used for the Y axis on Figure 41 and
Figure 51. What information is TCC attempting to convey to the
reviewer? Anomalously high values should not be used to set the
scale for graphical representation of data, particularly by using
a semi-log format.
TCC Response
The use of a log scale is necessitated in Figure 41 by the presence
of the surface site discharge information (greater than 10 cfs in
spring) in conjunction with the presence of 115 and 109 discharge
information (typically less than 1 cfs). Use of any other scaling
system would render some portion of the graph unavailable to the
reader, as flows would either be off scale or undetectable, due to
the difference in magnitude between the sites being compared.
Similarly, Figure 51 is a graphical representation of iron values
for the pond and springs at the Fish Creek Tipple for period of
record. Use of a different scale would again render portions of the
data either unavailable or unreadable. Please note that anomalously
high values were not utilized to set the scale in either instance;
rather, these scales are necessitated by the type of information
being conveyed.
DOMG Concern
12) Figure 27 is labelled as 1990 water year data.
