This area will continue • <br />to.be monitored in subsequent years to determine if another lek is present. <br />One blue grouse (Dendragapus obscures) was documented on the Seneca II-W permit <br />area during 2005 surveys. Early morning of 24 April, one male blue grouse was seen walking on <br />a berm flanking the access road in S W'/< NW'/a Section 22, TSN, R88W. Blue grouse are <br />typically observed in the Seneca II-W area each spring, with most of the sightings being <br />concentrated within Sections 22 and 23. <br />GOLDEN EAGLE NESTING <br />A cluster of five golden eagle nests exists on a cliff face above Hubberson Gulch in <br />Sections 16 and 21, TSN, R88W (Exhibit 1). On 24 April, a pair of eag]es was observed tending <br />at least one chick, less than five days old, at the southern-most nest. That territory has been <br />monitored since 1996, and was lurown to be active during at least eight of those ten years. No <br />activity was documented in 1998 or 1999. <br />SANDHILL CRANE ACTIVITY <br />No sandhill cranes were seen or heard on or near the Seneca II-W permit area during <br />surveys conducted spring 2005. <br /> <br />r~ <br />U <br />2005 Seneca 1[-W Mine Wildlife Monitoring Page 10 <br />
