Site <br />characteristics include: 20% slope on upland sideslope position; south aspect; mixed <br />reclamation grasses and forbs, excellent cover and productivity; reapplied topsoil; well <br />drained; moderate permeability; no erosion at sample site; sampled September 9, 2005; <br />soil samples for lab include 0-6" (reapplied topsoil}, 6-16" (reapplied topsoil), 16-36" <br />(mix of reapplied topsoil and weathered overburden spoil), and 36-60" (overburden <br />spoil). <br />A horizon - 0 to 6 inches; dark grayish brown (1 OYR 4/2) loam to clay loam texture with <br />18% small gravels, very dark grayish brown (IOYR 3/2) moist; moderate medium <br />granular structure; slightly hard dry consistence, friable moist consistence, slightly sticky <br />and slightly plastic wet consistence; common fine and very fine, and few medium roots; <br />• noncalcazeous, slightly acid (pH 6.4, from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. <br />C1 horizon - 6 to 16 inches; dazk grayish brown (lOYR 4/2) loam texture with 15% <br />gravels, very dark grayish brown (lOYR 3/2) moist; massive structure; slightly hard dry <br />consistence, friable moist consistence, slightly sticky and slightly plastic wet consistence; <br />common fine and very fine and few medium roots; slightly calcareous, neutral, (pH 6.8, <br />from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. <br />C2/OB1 horizon (mix of reapplied topsoil and weathered overburden spoil) - 16 to 36 <br />inches; grayish brown (lOYR 5/2) loam to sandy clay loam texture with 20% gravels, <br />brown (lOYR 5/3) moist; massive structure; very hazd dry consistence, firm moist <br />consistence, sticky and plastic wet consistence; moderately calcareous, neutral (pH 7.3, <br />from lab data); gradual wavy boundary. <br />OB2 (overburden spoil) - 36 to 60 inches; dark grayish brown (IOYR 4/2) clay loam to <br />sandy clay loam overburden spoil, very dazk grayish brown (lOYR 3/2) moist; <br />compacted, massive structure; extremely hazd dry consistence, firm moist consistence, <br />sticky and plastic wet consistence; moderately calcareous, slightly alkaline (pH 7.4); <br />gradual wavy boundary. <br />4.0 <br /> <br />8 <br />
