1994 Disturbance Area
• The 1994 Annual Reclamation Report, Exhibit 94.1, shoos the limits of disturbance as of
January 1, 1995. The disturbance Line as shown on this exhibit depicts all disturbance
associated with the mining operation including haul road construction, soil removal and
storage, open pits, spoil piles, etc. The area disturbed in 1994 totals 62.0 acres.
Backfilling and Gradinn
Backfilling and grading operations occurred in the original box cut of the loner mining
block, "A" pit, and "B" pit. A total of 54.0 acres were graded in 1994. These areas are
shown on Exhibit 94.2, 1994 Annual Reclamation Report.
Light-use Roads
Seneca Coal Company (SCC) committed in TR-9 of Permit C-82-057 to listing and updating
light-use road locations and associated culvert locations in the Annual Reclamation
Report. There was no increase in light use road locations and associated culverts during
the 1994 field season.
Soil and Sooil Monitoring
• SCC is required by Permit C-82-057 to monitor [he salvage, storage, and redistribution of
soil and the spoil handling operations at Seneca II-U Mine. Specific programs include
documenting soil recovery, verifying soil redistribution thickness, determining final
graded spoil suitability in the Lennox Coal outcrop sampling area, determining soil
fertility, evaluating plant rooting characteristics, recording the source of replaced
soil, and completing an annual soil balance. The following sections present the soil and
spoil monitoring data for the 1994 calendar year.
Soil Recovery Documentation. Soil recovery limits and depths were recorded on the soil
map by Peabody Western Loa( Company's (PYCC) soil scientist on September 11, 1994 to
document 'the actual thickness of soil recovered during the 1994 field season. Color
photographs of the soil profile and landscape were taken to verify the thickness of soil
recovered. The field notes and photographs for each soil observation site are on file at
SCC's Corporate office in FLagst of f, Artzona.
This quality control information is used to verify soil salvage estimates predicted from
• the baseline soil survey, confirm soil map unit types, justify salvage thickness, and
evaluate soil suitability. Soil salvage occurred in advance of [he "A" and North pits
1
