The
mining expanded into previously unstripped land. It is expected that a little more land will be stripped during
the next year.
Annual Report Maps: The annual report map looks very similar to the 2005 map, but the mining boundaries
have shifted slightly. Also, some of the older categories of disturbance have been remapped using new aerial
photography. As a result the acreages in some of those area have changed. One significant addition to the map
is the inclusion of the water line corridor. This land is being xevegetated.
Affected Lands: The amount of affected land has increased in the last year. The main cause of this change is
the result of mapping from a new aerial photo of the site. The same processes of operating the pit axe being
used as have been used in the past. The plant was relocated to the southeastern corner of the pit, much closer to
the actual extraction. The amount of conveyor has been dramatically reduced.
Revegetation: The site is stable and is not subject to erosion. No additional xevegetation was done in the last
year. A great deal more backfilling is occurring in mined out areas.
Expected Activity (2007): Mining will primarily proceed southward and somewhat eastward undisturbed
land. The amount of land provided on the map (11.5 acres) for expansion in the next year is probably overly
generous, but that amount is possible if the market remains fairly strong.
Bonding: This operation is covered by a self bond.
Schmidt Construction Company 2006 Annual Report M-1982-155 Fountain Pit Page 1 of 1
