A number of compaction and moisture content tests were taken oa the
stockpiled materials for contractors information. We also observed and discussed the surface drainage
conditions along the stockpile with the contractor and Karl Koehler. The contractor advised us that
[hey were not placing nay compacted lifts and [hat [hey were going [o stockpile the materials until [he
exposed materials had a chance to dry out.
At the time of our visit on Jtme Z5, 1997, the contractor had reprocessed the exposed materials iv
Areas 1 and 2 and had begun [o place additional fdl materials in these areas. Five compaction tests
were taken and the materials being placed in [he waste coal pile appeared [o be compacted to the
project speafications. The test results taken on this date are attached. We also met at the site with the
surveyors on June 26, 1997 to help establish a grid system oa the pile so that more accurate locations
and elevations of [he compaction tests can be recorded.
(970) 879.7888 • Fax (970) 879-7891
29585 U.S. 40 West, Box 775226 • Steamboat Springs, CO 80477
