method known as LOWESS (Locally Weighted Scatter plot Smoothing). Unless •
otherwise noted, smoothness factor (SF) of 1 (on a scale of 0 to 1) was
used, which gives maximum smoothing. This plot is followed by a table
listing historic TDS values and percent milliequivalents for major ions.
Finally, a statistical report representing baseline (i.e., premining)
data for each well (when available) is presented in Appendix C1. On this
statistics report, "censored data" refers to analytical values that were
below the detection limit, which were censored from the min/max/mean
calculations. The time frame for baseline conditions is listed under
"conditions specified" at the bottom of each page.
- Alluvium. One well, YAAL14, monitors water quality in the Annand Draw
alluvium. TDS values for this well display a stable trend (SF=0.5), with
the peak TDS occurring in 1998.
Two wells, YGAL15 and 16, monitor water quality in the Grassy Creek
alluvium . Well 15 is located on Gras sy Creek below the confluence of the
NPDESil tributary. It displays an increasing TD S trend. Well 16 is •
located immediately below NPDESII on a Grassy Creek tributary. It
displays an increasing TDS trend.
Four wells; YSAL1, 3, 8, and 12; monitor water quality in the Sage Creek
alluvium. Well 1 is the furthest downstream well. It displays an
increasing TDS trend. Well 3 is upstream of Well 1, and is located along
Sage Creek, just below the discharge from NPDESI2. It displays a stable
TDS trend (SF = 0.5). Well 8 is upstream of Well 3. It displays an
increasing TDS trend. Well 12 is the furthest upstream well, and is
upgradient o£ all mining. It displays an increasing TD5 trend.
- Wadge Overburden. We11 YOV28 monitors overburden water quality in the
Annand Draw basin. It displays a slightly increasing TDS trend. We11s
YOV29 and 30 exist in the Sage Creek basin. Well YOV29, prior to 1998,
never had enough water for sampling. However, subsequent water levels in
this well had increased, and three water samples were collected in 1998
and 1999. In May 2000 this well went dry and continues to be dry. Well •
YOV30 displays a decreasing TDS trend.
5
