Shelton
Dear Mr. Shelton:
~ ~~Ei`~~:~~
MAR 1 g X986
March 17, 1986+~. ~ ;-f ~t,~l,_,~ RESD.
Re: Notice of Intent to Continue Mining
Delta Sand and Gravel Co.
Permit ~~ 77-20, Pit ~k 1
From our Pit ~k 1 this year we have only mined approximately 30,000
tons and at present are only planning on approximately 30,000 more
tons this spring due to the extremely poor economic conditions in
this area.
We continue to mine the operation in our Phase I operation by mining
sand and gravel to the final 8' + of the bottom of the pit to the
top of the mancos shale. We are mining from east to west and have
now mined to the bottom of the deposit for approximately 1/2 of our
Phase I stage.
Present plans for reclamation are to work on the slope areas on the
east and southeast sides as soon as we are approximately three-
fourths of the way through the excavation of the final 8' + in the
Phase I of our mining. We feel it is necessary to complete three-
fourths of the Phase I in order to maintain the good quality of our
discharge water in our dewatering operation.
No slope work shall be performed on the north slope. This is
necessitated by the fact that we have a dike of approximately
6' - 10' in height along this side to prevent the river from
flooding our pit in the event of high water which has been
experienced twice since this pit was opened due to the fact that
adjacent land owners will not do any work whatsoever to control
riverbank erosion or flooding from or on their properties.
~-~-~
~~ l~
.-
DELTA 874.9759 PAONIA 527.4174 RANGELY 675-2315
