Dept. of Natural Reso~+ces

Mining is proceeding on schedule in accordance with the original mining
plan and timetable. The area mined by dredge this year previously was stripped
of overburden, as shown on Map Exhibit C, ,4ffected Lands, of the original
application. Again this year, as in 1979, the area mined did not include any
land that will be part of the final lake perimeter. Therefore, no reclamation
or slope grading for Phase I was required under the reclamation plan. The
reclamation plan calls for reclamation to begin in Phase II in 1982.
Reference is made to MLRB Rules and Regulations, effective July 1978,
Section 2.41:
2.41 (1) No new land was stripped this year. Mining at lower depths of
water was conducted throughout the mining season. No new land
was affected. See enclosed map.
(2) No reclamation in 1980 was required under the approved applica-
tion.
(3) Tree planting was accomplished on 8,000 square feet along the
southwest sides. See map enclosed.
(4) No additional tree plantings are required until 1982. Experi-
mental planting was done (in addition to the scheduled reclama-
tion requirements) as follows: (a) 50 black walnut trees
planted April 4, 1980; (b) 80 black walnut trees planted
April 22, 1980; (c)"wildlife cluster special" consisting of
miscellaneous berry-bearing species was planted during 1930.
(5) The entire pit area was once a feedlot; no additional fertiliz-
ing is desirable.
(6) Tree planting has been quite successful.
