I capability. The effect of the recommended stabilization
procedures and construction of the proposed retaining structures
I will actually result in a small increase in stability conditions
I above the portal areas during the operational phase. It is our
intention to leave these retaining structures in place following
I reclamation. Therefore, even further improvements to stability
conditions above the portal areas would be affected by the post
I reclamation condition.
I In the areas below the bench level, the proposed
modifications will have minimal effect on existing stability
J conditions for the operational phase. A minor reduction in
stability conditions (on the order of 58, plus or minus) will be
l experienced in the post reclamation condition due to the
surcharge effects at bench level from the portal backfilling
1 operation.
I ~§ ~-
Existing conditions along the easternmost end of the
I existing access road were again found to exhibit marginal
stability. The effects of the proposed modification in that area
I to permit the existing radius of curvature to be approximately
I doubled were again to cause a slight deterioration in stability
conditions (on the order of 58, plus or minus) both above and
below the access road. The overall nature of the stability
condition at that location would remain essentially unaltered and
marginal in nature. We would anticipate some level of routine
' maintenance to be required along the entire access road due to
the potential for intermittent instability. One area in
' particular which will be subject to high levels of maintenance
13
