Wyoming Fuels appeared to
monitor in compliance with the conditions of the permit. In addition, the
Division's requests for graphs and statistics were accommodated, and the
Annual Report is more illustrative and meaningful than past reports.
The laboratory results of the sample obtained at site exhibited poor quality
control. The mass balance analysis showed an error of 1]~. In the future,
please examine your results upon receipt and request re-evaluation if the sum
of the cations does not equal the anions.
Well 18, the only overburden well at the site, appears to be contaminated.
Water in the well has a pH which has shown alkaline conditions for years. The
well should have been replaced long ago. Please make preparations to either
clean the well or abandon it and replace it with another. I did look for
information on cleaning the weli, but was unable to find anything. Other
operators have tired purging wells with similar problems but have been
unsuccessful.
Please prepare and submit a schedule within forty-five days for repair or
replacement of Well 1B. Call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
- C Iran
Catherine W. Begej ~ Q~ ~~,opnl 5~+^''~
Reclamation Specialist
CWB/yjb
3464E
