Internal Memorandum
TO: Jim Burnell
FROM: Sandy Brown
DATE: Marcia 5, 199
RE: Bourg's 1998 Annual Hydrology Report
Attached is Bourg's AHR, not much to it. As you review it, keep in mind that they will
be requesting final bond release t}iis summer. 7'lrey will need to remove the wells prior
to our final decision. My feeling is we won't have them seal the wells until we have a
chance to review the bond release application and evaluate the revegetation data. I'm
not expecting problems and f think there is a very good chance the application will be
approved. So, f'd like to know if the hydrologic monitoring data is sufficient to allow
Bourg to seal the wells.
During my preliminary review of their AHR 1 did not see any spring or seep data.
Otherwise, the data appears to have been collected as required by their plan.
PHC of Mining on Surface Water
Short-term insignificant impacts on water quantity predicted.
PHC of Mining on Ground Water
No impact to alluvium predicted.
Quantity of water recharging Sudduth coal seam is expected to decrease.
Quality of spoil water is expected to degrade -increase in TDS and a shift from a
sodium bicarbonate to a sodium sulfate type of water.
No degradation to surface waters from spoil water seeps or springs is anticipated.
cc: Larry Rout[en
