<br />1991 ANNUAL RECLAMATION REPORT <br />1991 Disturbance Area <br />The 1991 Annual Reclamation Report, Exhibit 91.1, shows [he limits of disturbance as of <br />January 1, 1992. This line generally depicts areas of soil removal ahead of mining. <br />Actual disturbance ahead of mining for 1991 was 11.4 acres in the Wolf Creek mining area <br />and 7.8 acres in the Wadge mining area. <br />., <br />8ackfilling and Grading <br />The 1991 Annual Reclamation Report, Exhibit 91.1, shows the areas that were graded during <br />1991. There were 10.9 acres graded in [he Wolf Creek mining area and 22.3 acres graded in <br />the Wadge mining area. Cross-sections were generated in both areas to compare [he graded <br />areas with the proposed topography. Existing topography Cross-section 0-0', Exhibit 91.5, <br />compares [he existing graded area with the proposed postmining topography in Che Wolf Creek <br />mining area. Existing Topography Cross section P-P', Exhibit 91.6, compares the existing <br />graded area with the proposed postmining topography in the 4adge mining area. <br /> Soil and Sp oil Monitoring <br /> Peabody is required by Permit C-80-005 to monitor the salvage, storage, and redistribution <br /> of soil and spoil handling operations a[ Seneca II Nine. Specific programs include <br /> documenting soil recovery, verifying soil redistribution thickness, determining final graded <br />spoil quality, determining soil fertility, evaluating plant rooting characteristics, rec ortling <br />the source of replaced soil, and completing an annual soil balance. The following sections <br />present the soil and spoil monitoring data for the 1991 calendar year. <br />Soil Recovery Documentation. Soil recovery depths were recorded on the soil map by <br />Peabody's Western Division soil scientist on July 12, August 30, and October 18 to document <br />the actual thickness of soil recovered during the 1991 field season. Color photographs of <br />the soil profile and landscape were taken to verify the thickness of soil recovered. The <br />field notes and photographs for each soil observation site are on file at Peabody's Western <br />Division office in Flagstaff, Arizona. <br />This quality control information is used to verify soil salvage estimates predicted from <br />the baseline soil survey, confirm soil map unit types, justify salvage thickness and <br />evaluate soil suitability. About 18.9 acres of mixed brush sandstone-derived soils were <br />• salvaged in Wadge and Wolf Creek pit areas. Observations indicated very suitable loamy <br />1 <br />
