Fourth on my list of concerns is the enormity of Mr. Kinney's projects. Between
this application and the MARS PIT, he has applied to strip mine gravel on more
than 500 aces of land. Unless some major development is slated, that we all need
to know about, there is no conceivable mazket for such a large amount of gravel.
Additionally, adding such a large operation to the azea would certainly have an
adverse impact on the existing locally owned gravel operations.
An additional economic impact would be felt by the landowners duectly affected
by the mining operation. Both the owners of the ground that will be mined and
the owners of the large azea of land that surrounds the pits will have their
property values and their quality of life ruined.
Finally, Montenima County is in the process of developing a comprehensive
land use plan. To grant an application such as this, which would definitely fall
under the jurisdiction of the plan, would be premature, presumptive and in
direct conflict with the interests of the county.
In rondusion, I see no legal, ethical or just cause for approving this application.
Please listen to the voices of those people who would have to live with this strip
mir~'ti their~ont and back yazds. Deny this application.
~y~~ ~~
Douglas and Deborah Doty
38294 County Road G
Mancos, CO 81328
00200
