A-1
;Introduction
• Enclosed is a list of parameters and frequency of monitoring for the Nucla
Strip mine. The preparation of this 1lst culminates a review of overburden
chemistry data and surface and ground water data contained In the permit
application, along with a review of proposed receiving stream standards for
the San Niguel River.
The mining company is required under Rule 4.05.13(1) and (21 to monitor the
effects of surface mining activities on the quantity and quality of water in
ground and surface water systems. This monitoring is required to judge the
compliance of the operator with the water quality provisions of the Colorado
Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act. The water quality provisions of the Act
require that the operator shall in no case violate Federal and State water
quality statutes, regulations, standards, or effluent limitations. The
water quality standards which the operator must be found in compliance with
are Receiving Stream Standards and NPDES effluent Iimitattons.
If representatives of Peabody Coal Company have any comments or questions,
please feel free to contact the Division.
U

A-2
