The Division has revs ed New Elk Mine's 1997 Annual Reclamation Report. A summary of
the report and requirements of the submittal in accordance with Rule 2.04.13(1) follows:
a) Name and address of permittee and permit number. The permittee and operator is,

b) Location and number of acres disturbed during that year. The operator failed to report
whether or not any additional disturbances occurred in 1997.
c) Location and number of acres backfilled during that year. The 1997 implies that.the
Apache Canyon airshafts were reclaimed in 1997. These locations were reclaimed in
1996 according to the 1996 Reclamation Report

d) Location and number acres topsoiled during that year. Based upon the format provided,
no topsoil was applied on the permit area in 1997.
e) The species, location and number of acres of vegetation planted during [hat year,
including any augmented seeding or cultural practices. The report indicates that no
seeding occurred during 1997.
f) Location, number of acres and date of planting for all previously revegeta[ed areas. The
report indicates [ha[ several small disturbance areas, and ancillary facilities (West portal)
have been previously reclaimed. However, the report fails [o define these locations,
acreage, and dates of planting for these areas as required by Rule 2.04.13(1).
Please have the operator provide information in the annual reclamation report as required by Rule
2.04.13(1). Submittal of a map delineating locations, acres reclaimed, and dates of planting is
suggested to aid in clear definition of reclamation activities. Should any seeding occur during a
given year, Picketwire would need to include an accurate list of the seed mixes used. Yearly
weed control activities, reseeding orinter-seeding, and erosion feature repairs need to be defined.
Please have the operator provide the missing detail in accordance with Rule 2.04.13(1).
