• Table 3.5. Seed Mixes Applied on Areas
Revegetated Sn 1985
Two seed mites were applied on reclaimed areas in 1985. Seed mix 1 was used on upland
drier sites and south facing exposures. Seed mix 2 was used in drainages or north facing
exposures. Up to 25 percent of the reclaimed areas were seeded with seed mix 2, while
the majority of the area was seeded with seed mix 1.
A new drill seeder based on the Laird rangeland drill was manufactured for Peabody in
1985. The drill was constructed with two seed bones, one for large seed end one for
small seed. This allowed the drilling of the large seed and broadcasting of the smaller
seed. Seed mixes were thus split into large seed and small seed components and bagged
separately by the seed dealer. All seeding rates are presented as drilled rates.
Seed Mix t - Large Seed Component
Species Drilled Rate
Scientific Name ~ Common Name PLS l65/Ac
Agropvron dasvstachyum v, dasvs to eh yum ihickspike Yheatgrass 2.00
Agropvron intermedium Intermediate Yheatgrass 1.00
Agropvron dasvstachyum v. riparium Streembank Yheatgrass 1.00
Agropvron smithii Yestern Yheatgrass 2.00
Agropvron inerme Beardless Bluebunch Yheatgrass 2.00
• ~ Agropvron trachvcaulum Slender Yheatgrass 2.00
Ceratochloa marginate Mountain Brome 2.00
Dactyl is glomerate Orchardgress 0.50
EIvmUS cinereus Basin Yildrye 7.00
Elvmus iunceus Russian Yildrye 7.00
Fes tuna ovine v. ovine Sheep Fescue 0.50
Stine viridula Green Needlegrass 2.00
Cercocarous ledifloius Curliest Mountain Mahogany 0.10 _
Purshia tridentate Antelope Bitterbrush 0.20
Atriolex canes ens Fourwing Saltbush 0.13
Ceratoides Janata Yinterf et 0.07
Rhus trilobata Skunkbush Sumac 0.08
Nedysarum boreale Utah Sweetvetch 0.05
Penstemon stri ct us Rocky Mountain Penstemon 0.05
Linum lewisii Lewis Flaz 0.05
Total Large Seed 17.73 PLS lbs/0.c
Seed Mix 1 - Small See d Component
Phteum pretense Timothy 0.10
Poa ample Big 8tuegrass 0.50
Poa [omor es sa Canada Bluegrass 0.70
Astragalus titer Cicer Rilkvetch 1.00
Medicago setiva Alfalfa 0.50
Mel ilot us officinalis Yellow Sweetclover 0.50
.
