Groundwater Monitoring -New Horizon 2 Mine
In anticipation of the New Horizon Mine's migration to the west-northwest and toward an area not
currently being monitored for groundwater parameters, WFC submitted a minor revision application
(MR112) to DMG for the installation of six groundwater monitoring wells, three up dip (northeast
corner) and three down dip (southwest corner) of the projected future areas of disturbance. See
Map 2.04.7-1-A (Exhibit 7-1). WFC has also submitted a technical revision applications (TR-38,
TR-47) to revise the hydrological monitoring program as follows:
Begin monitoring of the six new groundwater wells (GW-N41, G W-N42 and G W-N43 up d ip,
and GW-N44, GW-N45 and GW-N46 down dip). Table 2.04.7-1 shows the frequency and
parameters to be monitored.
After the initial monitoring of each of the six (6) holes, the old monitoring holes GW-N13,
GW-N14andGW-N15willbeabandoned. Abandonment reports will be submitted to DMG.
Once tfie monitoring of newwells begin, monitoring of the existing wells GW-N16, GW-N17,
GW-N18, GW-N36, GW-N37 and GW-N38 in New Horizon 2 Mine will be discontinued.
However, these wells will be kept open and ready to resume monitoring when New Horizon
i Mine applies for a Phase 3 bond release of the area monitored by these wells in order to
collect data required by DMG. In June of 2002, the DMG requested that monitoring begin
again on wells GW-N16, GW-N17 and GW-N18.
• Continue monitoring oftwo alluvial wells GW-N39 and GW-N40. The upstream alluvial well
is located in the flood plain near Lincoln Street in the southeast corner ofthe mine while the
downstream alluvial well is located down gradient of the mine but upgradient of the Nucla
wastewater lagoon in Calamity Draw.
• Well GW-N30 and GW-N34 have been mined out.
• Wells GW-N29, GW-N32 and GW-N33 shown in Map 2.04.7-1-A have been abandoned in
the past.
• Attachment 2.04.7-2 contains well completion reports.
• Since much of the New Horizon 1 ground has met the Phase 3 bonding requirements and
has been released to its' owners, TR-47 modifies Table 2.04.7-1 reflect the elimination of
many of the surface and groundwater monitoring sites.
• (REVISED 18 Aug 2003) 2.04.74
