DENVER WATER
1600 Well 12th Avenue • Denver, Colorado 802043412
Phone 303-628-6460 • Fax No. 303-6286478
January 30, 2007
Mr. Anthony Waldron
Division of Reclamation
Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Rm 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Reclamation Pit No. 1, Permit No. M-1977-153
Dear Mr. Waldron:
rr- ,,~ -
bV,t'4~~"3~
JAN 3 12007
Division of Recl~:mation,
Ahining and Safe~y
This letter is provided in accordance with the January 2, 2007 invoice for the annual fee
and request for an annual report for the gravel mining permit M-1977-153.
Reclamation Pit No. 1, also known as the Hazeltine Pit, is owned by Denver Water and
South Adams County Water and Sanitation District (South Adams). A photo showing the
location of the pit and the included areas is enclosed.
The permit was amended in 2004 to include parcels A, B, and C and the former
Henderson Industrial Pit. The main portion of the pit lies between the Howe-Haller Pit
and the Road Runner's Rest II Pit in Adams County, Colorado. At the time of the
Amendment a slurry wall was under construction. The slurry wall was completed as
indicated on the enclosed aerial photo.
Denver Water and South Adams acquired the property for use as a water storage facility.
The embankment between the Road Runner's Rest II Pit and the Hazeltine Pit has been
partially removed in order to maximize the reservoir capacity of the two properties, and
because of the existence of the 120`h Avenue embankment.
In 2006 parcels A and B were partially mined by LaFarge. The remaining material is
planned to be utilized for construction of the finished slopes. In December of 2006
Denver Water authorized a contract lvith Warren Cruise and Associates to sort and
remove materials remaining in the Hazeltine and Road Runner's Rest II pits. That work
could take as long as two (2) years to be accomplished.
Denver Water and South Adams intend to investigate the feasibility of merging the Road
Runner's Rest II and the Hazeltine properties into a single permit.
CONSERVE
Patricia L. Wells, General Counsel, Legal Division
