IV. GEOTECHNICAL DATA COLLECTION SUMMARY
4.01 General
During 2003, detailed geotechnical data collection was necessary for the highwall in the North
Quarry excavated at slope angle steeper than default slope angle of 1 H:1 V as required by the
Amendments. Data from highwall was collected and used to reevaluate the steeper slope.
During 2003, partial filling of the reservoir occurred in the Central Quarry. Slope conditions
were inspected, however conditions did not change that would require reevaluation of stability
of the rock slopes.
Geologic mapping was performed for the northern side of Bench 1 in the North Quarry. The
' strike and dip of structural features was measured with a Brunton compass (using a 14 degree
magnetic declination) and recorded using "right hand rule" convention (bearing of strike
direction with dip direction being 90 degrees to the right).
4.02 Central Quarry
No new geologic mapping data was collected for [he Central Quarry since there was no mining
activity in 2003. General observations were made in the final mined area.
Aggregate Industries has provided survey support of the stabilized slope movement in the east
side since 1996. Survey support consists of continued monitoring of the post-repair surface
settlement points via optical survey. Survey data from March 1997, May 1997, March 1998,
October 1998, August 1999, August 2000, Apri12002, and February 2004 document the
performance of the repair. Based on this monitoring and the fact that mining is completed in
this area, continued monitoring will be performed once every 3 years or as conditions are
observed to change. A discussion of these data is provided in Section 5.02, and the data are
included as Appendix A.
4.03 North Quarry
New geologic mapping data was collected for Bench 1 at the north side of the North Quarry.
Joint orientation data was measured at areas of structural interest for appazent final highwall
segments established during 2003. Other mapping data and observations such as faulUshear
zone locations, fold axis trends, and intrusive dike locations, as well as notes about rock type
and condition, were documented. This information is shown on Figure 1.
