• program (CRP) pasture, where tall vegetation makes accurate counting and sexing very difficult. <br />Male attendance on that lek generally increased from 1995 to a maximum in 1999, and then <br />decreased substantially each year since then (Table 1). <br />SANDHILL CRANE ACTIVITY <br />During 2001 sandhill cranes were found nesting in SW% SW'/e Section 4, TSN, R87W. <br />The nest was located on a cattail (Typha spp.) hummock at the base of the dam of Nofstger <br />Zeigler reservoir. One crane was incubating two eggs on the nest and another defensive crane <br />was in the vicinity when the nest was found on 4 May. On 5 May, one sandhill crane was heard <br />calling from bottomlands northwest of the access road in NW'/o SEYa Section 29, T6N, R87W. <br /> <br /> <br />2001 Yoast Mine Wildlife Monitoring Page 8 <br />
