1
' Aggregate Industries - F Street Site Characterization Report
Project Number IOOI018 PnRncoN
' October 9, 2001
Page 3
below. Thirteen (13) soil samples were collected during the abatement process. The soil
t sample results were discussed in the July 6, 2001 Soil and Groundwater Abatement Report.
' Approximately 83,000 gallons of groundwater/free-phase product mixture was pumped from
the abatement excavation for temporary storage on site. The liquid was transported by Key
Energy Services to Arvada Treatment Center (ATC) for treatment and disposal. ATC
reported that approximately 450 gallons of free-phase product was recovered from the liquid
shipments and transported to Mesa Oil for recycling. An additional 20,000 gallons of
groundwater was pumped from the excavation and that water was used for dust suppression
' in the asphalt plant.
' Two (2) groundwater samples were collected during the abatement process. One (1)
groundwater sample was collected from the abatement excavation to document the
concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons which were present in the groundwater in the
' abatement excavation while one (1) groundwater sample was collected from a downgradient
mining dewatering trench to confirm that the dewatering trench had not been significantly
impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons. The north dewatering trench is located approximately
' 650 feet northeast of the abatement excavation. The groundwater sample results were
discussed in the July 6, 2001 Soil and Groundwater Abatement Report.
' 3. SUBSURFACE EXPLORATION
' Information regarding the subsurface exploration performed at the site in July 2001 is
presented in this chapter. The number, locations and depths of soil borings and monitoring
' wells completed at the site are discussed in the following sections. Subsurface conditions
encountered at the site are discussed in Chapter 4 of this report while analytical results for
soil and groundwater samples collected from the site are discussed in Chapter 5 of this
' report. Field methods are discussed in more detail in Appendix C.
' 3.1 Soil Borings
Four (4) soil borings were completed at the site on July 9 and July 10, 2001 to obtain
information regarding subsurface soil conditions. The approximate locations of those
' borings, i.e. MW-1 through MW-4, are shown on Figure 3 in Appendix A. A Paragon field
engineer was on site during the drilling operations to log the borings, collect soil samples
' and document the field activities. Please refer to Appendix C for further details regarding
the field methods employed at this site.

1
