' fanua n' ?000 Kerr Coal Company ° 1999 Annua( Hydrology Report "CO Permit :Vo. G80-006 ~ PnAe ?
' 2.0 MONITORING AND ANALYSES
Water monitoring activities during the 1999 water year (Oct. 1998 chrough Sept. 1999) were
' based on the schedule contained in the Kerr Water Monitoring Plan submitted during the 1991
midterm review and permit renewal. A proposal to reduce momtonng acnvules was submitted
by Kerr Coal Company sn Technical Revision No. 19. In a response letter dated January 20,
1999, the State of Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) accepted some
' modifications to the existing monitoring schedule, as described below.
Surface water sites 300, 306, 322, and 327, and ground water sites AP-3 and AP-4 ac the loadou[,
have been dropped from monitoring. Water quality sampling of the ground water wells in the
mme area coal aquifer (79-61) and the mine area overburden aquifer (79-1 and 79-2) has also
been eliminated, however, water levels were measured semi-annually at these locations for the
' 1999 water year. In October 1998, prior to eliminating the water quality sampling for these
wells, an independent sampler (Miller Water Monitor Service) was retained to collect the
samples and field data. All other field data and sample collection for the 1999 water year was
conducted by James Mossman of Kerr Coal Company. All sample analyses were performed by
ACZ Laboratories, Inc. of Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
' This report discusses the groundwater and surface water monitoring activities and summarizes
the data collected during the 1999 water year In the following sections:
' • Section 3 -Mine Area Confined Groundwater
• Section 4 -Mine Area Alluvial Groundwater
• Section 5 -Loadout Area Alluvial Groundwater
' • Section 6 -Mine Area Surface Water
• Section 7 -Loadout Area Surface Water
• Section 8 -Well Inspection
' • Section 9 -Future Monitoring
Field data and laboratory data are included in Appendices A through H. Location of the
' monitoring stations and wells are shown on Map 1, Mine Area Monitoring Stations, and Map
2, Loadout Area Monitoring Stations.
1

1
1

' ,Montgomery Watson "P.O.
