G30-006 ~ Pa,Qe?1
' 6.0 MINE AREA SURFACE WATER
The Kerr Mine experienced relatively low levels of precipitation (snow) during early 1999,
' resulting in limited spring runoff. The snowmelt generated discharge from the sedimem ponds
only in late March and April. Field measurements were taken and the outflow sampled Erom
Site 301 (Pond A), Site 304 (Pond D), Site 305 (Pond E), and Site 321 (Pond F). No flow was
observed during [he 1999 water year for Si[e 302 (Pond B), Si[e 303 (Pond C), and Site 322
(Pond G).
The parameter list for sample analysis was reduced for the sediment ponds to include only flow,
' settleable solids, and pH based on requirements set forth in the renewed CDPS permit, effective
July 1997, regulating post-mtntng outfalls (i.e., sediment ponds). TDS, TSS, total iron and total
manganese are no longer analyzed. Table 8, 1999 Surface Water Statistics -Sediment Ponds,
' presents a summary of the data. Field data sheets are contained in Appendix A, 1999 Field
Data, and results from laboratory [est~ng are presented in Appendix F, 1999 Mine Area Surface
Water Quality Analyses.
No data was collected from surface water sites 300, 306, 314, and 327 during the 1999 water
year. No flow was observed at sites 300, 306, and 327 in October 1998, and monitoring of
' these sites was eliminated as of January 1999. Site 314 was monitored weekly from March
through June, then monthly through October, but did not experience flow during any of these
monitoring events.
1
1
1
1
~J

1

A1on[gomery Watson "P.O.
