Table 3-5. Seed Nixes Applied on Areas
Revegetaied in 1985
Two seed mites were applied on reclaimed areas in 1985. Seed mix 1 was used on upland
drier sites and south facing exposures. Seed mix 2 was used in drainages or north facing
exposures. Up to 25 percent of the reclaimed areas were seeded with seed mix 2, while
the majority of the area was seeded with seed miz 1.
A new drill seeder based on the Laird rangeland drill was manufactured for Peabody in
1985. The drill was constructed with two seed boxes, one for large seed end one for
smell seed. This allowed the drilling of the large seed and broadcasting of the smaller
seed. Seed mites were thus split into large seed and small seed components and bagged
separately by the seed dealer. Al l~seeding rates ere presented as drilled rates.
Seed Mix 1 - Large Seed Component
Species Drilled Rate
Scientific Name ~ Common Name PLS lbs/Ae
Avroovron dasvstachyum v. dasvs to ch vum Thickspike Vheatgrass 2.00
Avroovron intermedium Intermediate Vheatgrass 1.00
Avroovron dasvstachyum v. rioarium Streambank Vheatgrass 1.00
Avroovron smithii Yestern Yh eetgrass 2.00
Avroovron inerme Beardless Bluebunch Vheatgrass 2.00
Avroovron trachvcaulum Slender Vheatgrass 2.00
• Ceratochloe marainata Mountain Brome 2.00
Dactvlis olomereta Orchardgrass 0.50
El mus tinereus Basin Yildrye 1.00
El mus iunceus Russian Yildrye 1.00
Festuca ovine v. ovine Sheep Fescue 0.50
stioe viridula Green Meedlegress 2.00
Cercocarcus ledifloius Curlleef Mountain Mahogany 0.1D

Purshia tridentate
Antelope sitterbrush _
0.20
Atriolex canescens Fourwing Saltbush 0.13
Ceratoides Janata Vinte rf at 0.07
Rhus trilobata Skunkbush Sumac 0.08
Hedysarum boreale Utah Swee[vetch 0.05
Penstemon strictus Rocky Mountain Penstemon 0.05
Linum lewisii Lewis Flex 0__05
Total Large Seed 17.73 PLS lbs/Ac
Seed Miz 1 Small Seetl Component
Phleum pretense Timothy 0.10
Poa em la Big Bluegrass 0.50
Poa comoressa Canada Bluegrass 0.10
Astraaalus titer Cicer Rilkvetch 1.00
Medicavo setiva Alfalfa 0.50
Mel ilotus officinalis Yellow Sueetclover 0.50
• Achilles lanutosa Yestern Terror 0.05
3.5
