DMG Permit No. M-88-112 April Monthh' Sampling Dear Mr. Dillie: All required sampling was completed during the month of April. The NANO/RO water plant operated intermittently during the month. A total of 11,353,100 gallons of water (34.84 acre feet) was treated and discharged into Rito Seco during the month of April. All surface water stations were inspected daily and RS-4 and RS-6 were found to be dry. Vacuum on the lysimeters was veriTied and no water was present to sample. When we checked the piezometers on the main embankment of the tailing impoundment on 27Apri1 2001, the piezometers were dry or contained below 12 inches of water. The two west pit piezometers were measured for depth to water on 27 April 2001, with the following result: BF-1 was 29.09 ft., BF-2 was 32.72 ft., BF-4 was 26.12 ft. and BF-6 was 32.09 ft. The other piezometers in the West Mine area were also checked with the following result: PW-1 was 29.07 ft., PW-2 was 29.22 ft., PW-3 was 36.74 ft. and PW-4 was 30.73 ft. The underdrain was measured at approximately 53 gpm. The collection pond leak detection system was pumped on 30 April 2001. The leak was approximately 46.5 gpad. As reported last month the collection pond is pumped daily to maintain a small volume of water in the pond. This is being done for two reasons, first to control the amount of water that might report to the leak detection system through a hole in the liner and secondly to be able to inspect the liner for holes.
