Lochhead
Etetutive Director
Michael B. Long
Division Director
Today I spoke with Christine Johnston and Paige Beville of Mountain
Coal Company (MCC). The phone call occurred at approximately A:OS
p.m.
Christine stated that the inflows are still occurring at an
approximate rate of 7600 gallons per minute (gpm). Christine
stated that the water inflow exhibits a temperature of about 83
degrees F. I asked how MCC is measuring the inflow, and Christine
stated that crews are estimating flow velocity and flow cross
sectional area in the entries. Christine stated that MCC is
pumping about 1100 gpm to the surface Pond MB1, '
t~T°``~Christine stated that MCC was not yet discharging to
the North Fork of the Gunnison River. She stated that water had
filled Cell 1 of Pond MB1, and that water was being transferred to
Cell 2 of Pond MB1. Christine indicated that Pond MB2R also has
available, and as yet, unused storage volume. Christine indicated
that the site ponds would be filled to the level which would still
allow the designed storm volume to enter the ponds, then discharge
would occur.
Christine also indicated that the MCC water sampling consultant
would be conducting hydrologic sampling and observations in
Sylvester Gulch to monitor stream flow, well levels and springs.
She indicated that wells SOM-80, RAV-4b and one other well, perhaps
in the Barren Member would be checked.
STATE OF COLORADO
Both Paige and Christine seemed to think that once discharge
occurs, the water would probably exhibit suspended solids above
