Long
Division Drrecror
Re: Mart Mine, C-80-006, Annual Reclamation Report 1996.
Deaz Mr. Patterson:
Kerr Coal Company's Annual Reclamation Report for the Marr Mine for 1996 was received
on January 13, 1997. The Division has reviewed the Annual Reclamation Report.
Information provided in the report fulfills the requirements of Rule 2.04.13. Kerr Coal
Company submitted copies of the seed tags of the seed mix planted throughout the site as
requested by the Division.
Seedmix No. 17024 was applied by drill seeding methods over 70.2 acres at Pit 1 and
alongside light use roads A and B. Seed tags supplied by Kerr Coal Company shows the
composition and application rate of this mix to be in agreement with the approved seed mix
listed in Table 67a in the permit. Seedmix No. 17027 consisted of the approved shrub seed
along with White Yarrow (Achilles millefolium) and Aspen Daisy. The daisy appears to be
a sustitiute for Eaton Fleabane. This is an acceptable substitution, This mix was broadcast
seeded at the same time as the grass/forb mix was drill seeded.
An addition seedmix was observed during the Division's October ]996 inspection. this
seedmix, No. 17032, consisted of just the graminoid species. Please clarify how and where
this seed mix was utilized.
The ARR includes a table named "Summary of Total Disturbance", The Division would like
to clarify that the 19.5 acres of Surface facilities and roads remaining does not include the
unreclaimed Load out facilities located in Walden. Additional information that should be
included in the Annual Reclamation Report is documentation of weed control activities
conducted on the permit areas. Canada thistle has invaded portions of the mine area. The
operator did apply herbicide during 1996. The chemical used, extent of infestation and
timing of treatment should be reported as well.
