I~ • `
39
Recommendations
1. Due to superior plant response, Treatments 2-6 should be considered
in preference to the Control.
2. Treatment 2 (phosphorus and potassium control), because of good
plant growth and diversity while minimizing the inputs of fertilizer and mulch,
appears to be the best method of reclaiming level areas.
3. Two amendments to Treatment 2 that might aid plant establishment and
growth are pitting or some other form of land manipulation to harvest the
limited available moisture to plants, and second either manure or sludge
should be added to increase the moisture holding capacity of the spoils, aid
plant establishment, and increase the organic matter content in the dolomite
wastes.
4. Any mulch or manure amendments must be seed free to minin, ze compe-
tition to seeded species during establishment.
5. Much of the quarry lies on slopes and further experimentatiop in
these areas will be necessary before large-scale revegetation can be success-
fully accomplished.
6. On steeper areas mulching and contour furrows might prove necessary
to stabilize the area against erosion. To hasten establishment on these
grades, nitrogen could be applied along with the phosphorus and potassium
fertilizers especially since nitrogen carrying manure/sludge will be difficult
r to handle on these areas.
7. Wildlife have already been observed using the study area. Some
provisions to cope with the impact from these animals, as well as domestic
livestock, must be considered.
1
