III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
999
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Dlrsctor
March 16, 1988
Mr. Jim Stover
Blue Ribbon Coal Co.
P.O. Box 1352
Palisade, Colorado 81526
Re: Blue Ribbon Mine Annual hydrologic Report, C-81-047
Dear Mr. Stover:
We have completed our review of the 1987 annual hydrologic report
submitted on January 26, 1988. In general we feel that monitoring
conducted in 1987 was in compliance with the approved plan. Although
some monthly flow monitoring was missed during the first half of the
year, additional complementary monitoring of field parameters in 1987 and
more detailed monitoring than required in 1986 offset the omission.
We have several questions and comments concerning the report as follows:
1. How is flow measured in Hubbard Creek above the mine site?
Why is flow not measured below the mine site?
2. Submit a map with monitoring locations indicated on it for all
piezometers, surface water sites in Hubbard Creek, and
underdrain outfalls.
3. When was the current lower Hubbard Creek water monitoring site
established?
4. Submit historic plots of water levels in the bench piezometers.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel. (303) 866-3567
