Reclamation Plan
VALCO Page 4
i
i
7 ) Supplemental water , if available , should be provided during the
first two growing seasons to insure seeding success . Water should be
applied at one week intervals at - a rate of 3/4 to 1 inch per
application . The irrigations should begin no later than May 1 and
continue until late July . Additional irrigations after July can be at
the discretion of the party responsible for reclamation. During the
second growing season , enough supplemental water should be applied so
that when combined with natural precipitation, 2 inches of moisture is
received per month during May, June and July. After July of the
second year , supplemental irrigations can be eliminated.
8 ) All tillage , seeding and crimping operations should be performed I
across the slope when practical .
The area should be protected from grazing and trampling until the
seeding is well established . Normally at least two years of protection
is needed. During seedling establishment , weeds may be controlled by
mowing or• by using an approved herbicide. Refer to the current II
Colorado Pesticide Guide , Field Crops for herbicide recommendations to
control weeds in the grass seeding .
i
In addition to the above recommendations , the following information and
guidelines are available from the Natural Resources Conservation
Service office :
j
- Colorado SCS Spec . No. 544 - " Land Reconstruction,
Currently Mined Land"
- Colorado SCS Spec . No . 484 - "Mulching"
- Colorado SCS Spec .
