An economic slowdown has been affecting the Grand Junction
area for the past couple of years and product demand has been
lower than anticipated.
A new island started in the Gunnison River this year causing
it to claim approximately 500 feet along the western side of Stage
Z (colored green). The map shows this and also shows where the
river course was changed last year in Stage Y. Please refer to
the map attached for locations of the areas discussed in this report.
Reference is made to MLRB Rules and Regulations, Section 2.40.
2.41 (1) No new land was disturbed in the last year. We mined
2.76 ac.t in Stage i and 0.15 ac. ± in Stage C, on areas
previously disturbed when the area was stripped in 1983
(colored brown). The new material was mined to replenish
stockpiles used last year.
(2) Backfilling in Stage Y has stopped, no new area
has been disturbed to provide a source of backfill
material. No other stages require reclamation at this
time.
(3) Backfill of the 15 acres ± in Stage Y will resume as soon
as additional area is disturbed and material becomes
available.
(4) No planting was scheduled for this year.
