Third St, Room 301 <br />Grand Junction, Colorado 81501 <br />~ i/ REC~I~,~~i~ <br />RE: Permit No. M-1977-306, JD-9 Mine, Appeal of DMO Determination <br />JUN Z 5 2007 <br />Mr. Means: <br />Division of Reclamation, <br />Mining and Safety <br />Attached is information pertaining to the soil moisture sampler (lysimeter) and the <br />monitor well installed at Cotter Corporation's JD-9 mine in regazd to the appeal of the <br />Division's determination that the JD-9 mine should be a Designated Mining Operation <br />(DMO). <br />LYSIMETER <br />The lysimeter was installed in December 2006. It is located just south of the mine waste <br />pile at the JD-9 mine, the site agreed upon in a field meeting with Division of <br />Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (DBMS) persormel. A map showing the location of <br />the lysimeter is included as Figure 1. <br />Following the installation of the lysimeter attempts to collect samples were begun on a <br />regular basis. To date there has been no success in collecting any water samples from <br />this lysimeter. A spreadsheet showing The dates of sampling and the results of those <br />sampling efforts is also included as Table 1. <br />MONITOR WELL <br />The monitor well was completed in Januazy 2007. It is located south of the JD-9 mine <br />waste dump, the site agreed upon in a field meeting with DBMS personnel. A map <br />showing the location of the monitor well is included as Figure 1. <br />The analytical results of the samples collected from the JD-9 monitor well are shown in <br />the attached Table 2. Also included in this table are the results of a previous sample <br />collected in June 2006 from the JD-9 mine. <br />The monitor well sample dated 4-26-07 was the first sample collected from the well after <br />it had been completed. Following a discussion with DBMS personnel the constituents <br />shown were chosen to analyze for.
