AMRIAL REPORT FOR OCI'OBER 10, 1983 PER4IT ANNIVERSARY rr'Ir"f1 C!"I
PORTLAND PLANT QUARRY -- PE MT NO. 77-344
0, 1 iS33
FMDITr COUNTY, COLORADo
IDEAL BASIC INDUSTRIES, INC. , CEMENT DIVISION Cc:c. c zl ::_aurces
The attached map, pcc-1387, is marked to show the Portland quarry status as
of September 15, 1983. The following information is given by item numbers in
compliance with Rule 2.41 of the Regulations of the Mined Land Reclamation
Board. The Portland quarry was remapped by aerial photography during 1982 in
Ideal's regular program of photo-mapping every three (3) years. This is re-
flected in the more accurate placement of the south side of Cut 4, and in the
more current configuration of the quarry in general.
(1) Location and Number of Acres Affected During the Year.
The affected area shown in this report is 304 acres compared to 317 shown
in the 1982 report. The difference is from the new aerial mapping men-
tioned above which shows less area actually in Cut 4 than was shown in
the 1982 report, and less area actually mined in Cut 3 than was projected
last year. New disturbance in 1983 was confined to Cut 5, which was re-
ported totally in the major disturbance category in the 1982 report, and
two (2) small cuts for gravel and road rock totaling one (1) acre in Cuts
8 and 16.
General information on the 1982-83 mining, listed by Cut, is as follows:
Cut 1 -- The cut has been completely topsoiled and is ready
for seeding, which is scheduled for Fall 1983 or
Spring 1984.
Cut 2 -- Sandstone mining in this area has been completed.
The portion of the cut still open will be back-
filled when stripping is started on Cut 6. The
2.7 acres seeded in May 1982 is doing very well
with a good growth of grass. Approximately for
(4) additional acres are scheduled for planting
Fall 1983 or Spring 1984.
Cut 3 -- Limestone mining has been completed except for
a small block in the northeast corner. A sand-
stone quarry has been started in the middle of
the Cut, which will be used during most of the
limestone mining in Cuts 4 and 5. The south
end of Cut 3 is being backfilled with overburden
from Cut 5.
Cut 4 -- Stripping has been completed to the fault zone.
Wo (2) quarry faces have been established and
are being actively quarried. Quarrying will re-
main active in this Cut through 1984.
