ERHIBIT H
WILDLIFE INFORMATION
1. Proposed ORION PIT operations will be minimal in the winter months operating on a
limited schedule of 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and will shut down as necessary thus
minimizing an adverse impact on wildlife during the winter months.
2. There are no known springs, stock ponds or wells on the affected lands thus no
wetlands immediately available to the wildlife.
3. A buffer zone along Highway 160, and County Road 38, County Road G. and County
Road H will be maintained for minimal disturbance to the vegetative cover.
4. It is proposed to manage the impact on wildlife in an effort to achieve the same goal
as the Division of Wildlife with site specific consultation with the area Department of
Wildlife representative, Ruth Lewis Carlson encouraged. It is proposed to develop a
suitable wildlife protection/mitigation plan for the area of ORION PIT and to incorporate
features of the final plan into the overall reclamation plan. Some of the proposed
features already known are:
a. the minimal hours of operations during the winter months (10:00 AM-2:00 PM );
b. the creation of buffer zones along the roadways pertinent to the site;
c. install appropriate protection berms around fuel storages;
d. siltation/sediment basins installed at strategic locations to retain surface run-off
which would control water quality and remain after the life of the pit as part of the
reclamation plan;
e. help maintain clean water run-off by stabilizing upstream vegetation and banks
5. Reclamation Plan for proposed ORION PIT is to restore to present day conditions of
pasture land/hayfields where there is minimal to no coverage or refuge for wildlife.
00020
