t = the t statistic (one-tailed, 90% confidence; n-1 degrees of freedom; if n>30, t = 1.282 for
purposes of this study);
d =acceptable amount of inherent variability to be identified between the sample mean and the
true population mean (0.15 for purposes of this analysis);
x =sample mean for shrub density data.
After an adequate sample has been collected, an assessment of fhe largest combination of
patches whose average woody plant density equals or exceeds 1000 stems per acre was made.
The acreage included in this "optimized" grouping of High density shrub occurrences was
determined to assess the percent that these "sufficiently dense" patches comprise of the total
BRB-3 area.
The criterion for formal for judgement of the adequate stocking of woody plants on the Seneca II
site is as follows:
Overall average density 2 100 stems per acre with at least 5% of the BRB area oossessino Z
1000 stems per acre.
Shrub data will lie again be collected in 2006.
Climatic Data
SCC provided precipitation data for the Seneca II Mine for the period of January 1982 through
September 2005. Since the long-term average far the mine exists for only 22 years, the long-
term average monthly precipitation data from the Western Regional Climate Center (WRCC) for
the nearby town of Hayden was used as an appropriate base for comparison. SCC also provided
temperature data for the nearby Seneca IIW Mine in 2005; these data were used for temperature
analysis on the Seneca II Mine.
RESULTS
Numerical data are found in Tables 1 through 20 of Appendix 1. Sample data from the 2005
revegetation monitoring studies at the Seheca II Mine are presented in Tables 1 through 16.
Sampling data are summarized in Table 17. Data on species density by lifefomt are tabulated for
sampled areas in Table 18. Data on relative cover by lifeform are compiled in Table 19, Statistical
13
