SUMMARY OF 1997 ACTI VITIES
Active mining continued at the new mine during the year. Reclamation was
accomplished on one additional pit wall bench. An exploration drilling program was initiated
during the year (Permit #97-020) on unpatented mining claims northwest and northeast of
the new mine. Some additional drilling may be required in 1998 to complete the program,
but reclamation of areas disturbed in 1997 will begin in 1998.
Reclamation efforts continued in the old mine area during the year with backfilling and
regrading of highwalls mined prior to 1990. There were no additional areas ready for top
soiling and reseeding during the year.
The portion of Eagle County Road #51 which serves as a haulroad was treated with
dust suppressant during the summer. Road base material was replaced on worn areas of the
road at that time.
Approximately 355,000 tons of gypsum rock was shipped from the mine during 1997.
-3-
