2005 RILL & GULLY SURVEY
EMPIRE
Inspector: Joe ShoemakerBrian Watterson (BTU Empire)
Date: April 23, 2005; June 10, 2005 August 24, 2005;
September 21, 2005
Location: Empires' William's Fork Strip Pit and the Utah Tract
In both April 2005 (Mr. Watterson), and August 2005 (Mr. Shoemaker), the
William's Fork Strip Pit was walked along the outslope of the pit and along
the drainage where the high wall had been reclaimed. All areas looked good.
Random minor rills were observed, but nothing was noted due to the minor
nature of the rills, i.e. typically less than 2" and less than 50' in length. The
area is adequately vegetated; typically, shrubs will continue to invade the
area and will increase shrub numbers.
The Utah Tract was traversed by Mr. Shoemaker in August from the top to
the bottom of the area. Vegetation is doing excellent, with no excess rills or
gullies occurring over the site. As with the William's Fork area, just random
minor rills were observed which do not require any repair. The vegetation
appears. to be in better condition than previous years due to increased spring
moisture.
Vegetation sampling was completed by Habitat Management the first week
of September. An interim vegetation report will be filed with DMG before the
end of the year. A bond release application will be submitted in 2006.
Note that a stormwater inspection was also performed on June 10, 2005, by
Mr. Andy Poirot of the Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment and Mr. Watterson. No issues were noted at that time. A copy
of the inspector's report is attached.
is \empire\rillgull.Ob
