Logan Wash Mine
Annual Report
March 28, 2001-Marsh 27, 2002
Permit No.: M 1977-424
Introduction
This annual report has been prepared in accordance with regulations of the State of Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) and the regulations promulgated by the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Board. The information in this report pertains to the period March 28,
2001 to March 27, 2002 (reporting Period). Projected reclamation activities for the following
year are also presented.
The Logan Wash Mine, located approximately 12 miles northeast of De Beque, Colorado, is
managed by Glenn Springs Holdings, Inc. (GSHq for Occidental Oil Shale, Ina (OOSI). A
general site location map for the Logan Wash Mine is presented in Figure 1.
This annual report summarizes the reclamation status of the Logan Wash Mine Oil Shale
property. During the reporting period, no surface elclamaflon wwk was conducted on the OOSI
property or OOSInght-of--ways on the adjoining U. S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM)
property. Some piping repairs sad modifications were made to the retort draitage system inside
the mine. At this time, GSHI requests to remain on Temporary Cessation status at the Logan
Wash Mine Site. GSHI is in the process of evaluating a reclamation schedule for Logan Wash
Mine and will notify DMG as soon as possible regarding removal from Temporary Cessation
status. GSHI anticipates reclamation activities to resume in 2003.
The remainder of this armual report is organized as follows:
• Section 2: Disturbed Acreage Status
• Section 3: Monitoring Activities
• Section 4: Reclamation Activities in 2001
• Section 5: Maintenance Activities
• Section 6: Arrticipated Reclamation in the Year 2002
• Section 7: Arrticipated Disturbance in the Year 2002
Please refs to Figure 1, the Logan Wash Mine location map, and Figwe 2, the Logan Wash Mine
site map for features discussed in this resort.
2.0 Disturbed Acreage States
According to Exhibit E, the Reclamation Plan for Logan Wash (1981), 134.7 acres were approved
for distwbance within the permit area. However, only 113.6 acres have actually been disturbed
within the permit aria. To date, it is estimated that at least 25 acres have bcen reclaimed at the
Logan Wash Mine Site. Most surface buildings and structures have been removed and
reclamation of those sites is complete. Surface structures that remain include a raise borehole and
ventilation fan area, two vault structures (one on the lows bench and one at the evaporation
pond), a small section of exposed piping from the retort drainage pipeline, monitoring wells
LWCW-lA and LW-112, and Pond 1 (evaporation pond). Other monitoring wells may exist,
however, none have been located during several field investigations. Dwing the year 2000,
approximately 6000 fl (0.14 acres) was disturbed dwing repay ofthe retort discharge pipeline
1 of 4
