Peabody
•BTU Empire Corporation
n
Water Ouality SamolinQ:
29515 Routt County Road #27
Oak Creek, CO 80467
970.879.3800
9. DMRs: The former owner, RAG, took away our oracle database (indicating it was proprietary)
when Peabody acquired Empire in 2004. Development of a new database was initiated,
however, data normally entered by Empire personnel and the laboratory during the year had to be
hand-entered into tables in order to meet the 2004 AHR deadline. Discrepancies appear to be
entry errors and carry-overs from earlier reports by multiple people working on this. Also, DMR
reporting requires weekly insitu readings for pH, in which we utilize a pH meter in the field.
However, several laboratory samples were collected in 2004 which included pH measurements.
Apparently some of these laboratory measurements were included during data entry in the DMR
reporting. In reviewing the field notes and laboratory data I have made the following updates:
a. No. 5 Mine Discharge
i. ls` Qtr -min/max pH is actually 7.28 - 7.91. 8.08 was a laboratory reading. (Table 7
and DMR attached). Some conductivities were also corrected on Table 7.
ii. 2"d Qtr -minimum pH was actually 6.89 in second quarter on 4/11/04. Data entry for
pH appears to be off by two rows. 2.65 cfs appears to be a data entry error. (Table 7
attached).
iii. 3`d Qtr -maximum pH was 7.74. 7.83 on 7/29/04 is a data entry error and should
have read 7.73. Similarly, the entry of 7.78 on 8/5/04 should have read 7.68. (Table 7
attached).
iv. 4`h Qtr -the pH low [hat quarter was 7.53 as shown in the AHR (6.68 value might be a
carry-over). (DMR attached).
b. No. 1 Strip Pit
i. ls` Qtr -The minimum insitu reading for the quarter was actually 7.9. 7.85 was a
laboratory reading. The maximum and 30 day avg. iron values were 0.570 ug/1
instead of 0.530 ug/1. (DMR and Table 15 attached).
ii. 2"d Qtr -The DMR flow appears to be a miscalculation. The daily max should have
been 0.008 MGD. (DMR attached).
Groundwater/Mine WaterMonitorine:
10. The 6244 datum is correct. Table 5 has been updated accordingly. Note that Figure 8 had
utilized data from an oracle database with an imbedded calculator using the correct datum, and
therefore did not need to be corrected.
